My pup needed knee surgery twice. The money was in my account within 72 hours! Then, they advised they were going to adjust my rate and they did! They discounted it! Unheard of!

I signed up my cat a couple of years ago and haven't had to worry about funding vet bills, God forbid.

Peace of mind is a valuable commodity and honest insurers are golden.

I phoned to cancel a pet insurance in May and they kept billing my credit card every month and never phoned nor emailed me like they are saying they did I have phoned multiple times and nothing I have over paid $97 each month and I was told last phone call it would be paid back from original date of phone call and it wasn't now they say they won't so now they have lost having both my dogs rather than just one. Worst customer service in the history.

Trupanion covered ninety percent of my (considerable) costs to save my dog's life when he had liver tumors. They are still covering most of the costs of his rechecks on that procedure, and could not be more helpful. I have put the charges on my card and without exception they have gotten the money into my account before the bill came due. Agents have been without exception kind, polite, well-informed and helpful. The hospital asked if I had insurance going into this and when I said I had Trupanion, the doctor told me I should be all right as Trupanion is "The Cadillac of health insurance." She was certainly right about that. I highly recommend Trupanion, they provide a wonderful service. We have had two or three other major claims with our dogs and they have been just as helpful every time.

I've had Trupanion Insurance for 9 Years now. I had 3 dogs insured. One was only 5 months old when I registered him. The other two were 3 Years and 6 Years old. At first I thought the premiums were not too bad -but over the years I kept getting rate increases. I would call them to inquire and they would say it's not because of their age it's because of the cost of Vet charges in my area. They can tell you whatever they like and they were always making excuses for the rate increases.
I should've cancelled my policy years ago. I regret that I didn't. My recommendation is that you Don't get insurance with them-unless you want to give away thousands of dollars! Put the money in an account every month and if you need it for a sick pet you will have the funds and not have to contend with "we don't pay the exam nor do we pay for the first 500" on the claim or whatever the deductible happens
This straw that broke the camels back for me is;
I received a notice that my one dog's premium is going up from 55. To 71.55 per month THAT is a 30% increase! And that's just one dog with a 500 deductible. The other dogs are going up as well they told me when I phoned - I just haven't received the notice yet. It's seems there is no regulation on how much they can raise your premium after you've been paying for years with virtually no claims. I think I received about $400 for one dog over the course of 9 Years and no claims on the other two. Trupanion Pet Insurance is a Big Rip Off!

Premium ripoff
September 2, 2018

I had a decent experience with this company handling claims until they started raising my premiums for no obvious reason. My fees increased 12 percent from $45 in May 2017 to $51.35 three months later in August 2017. If that wasn't enough Trupanion then raised it an enormous 38 percent from $51.35 to $82.73 a year later in August 2018! I emailed them to cancel the policy. They have no way to cancel on their website or any other way except to call them by phone so instead I sent them an email. They would not immediately cancel and left me multiple messages to call them to 'talk about it.'' I was appalled and did not call them. Finally they let me know the policy was canceled but they charged me a prorated fee at this exorbitant, inflated premium for one day because I didn't realize they had raised their rates until I saw it on my credit card a day after the first of the month. I contacted my credit card company and they said to contact the vendor again. I did and Trupanion refused to remove the charge, or charge me for the lower premium approved credit card rate. This is dishonest, unscrupulous and underhanded business practice and they should know better than to treat their customers so poorly. I highly suggest you avoid enrolling your pet with their insurance because my guess is they will eventually do the same kind of thing to you.

Don't choose Trupanion
February 10, 2025

I found Trupanion's pricing and coverage to be less competitive than other options. When I decided to cancel, the process was a nightmare—they mishandled it, costing me extra money. The customer service supervisor was arrogant and difficult to deal with. Simply to call customer service was frustrating, with wait times of at least 20 minutes per call. Their call-back option doesn't help as you still have to stay available, making it just as inconvenient -- or you start all over in the line again. Three times they promised to call me at a certain time and never did. They don't care about the customer and they are over priced. Overall, a disappointing experience.
