The company's reputation is significantly marred by widespread customer dissatisfaction, particularly concerning its subscription model and customer service. Many users report unauthorized charges, difficulties in canceling subscriptions, and a lack of responsive support, leading to perceptions of deceptive practices. While some customers acknowledge the potential value of the service for avid readers, these positives are overshadowed by frustrations with the platform's functionality and the quality of customer interactions. Overall, the feedback indicates a pressing need for improved communication and more transparent billing practices to restore customer trust.

I cancelled my subscription in 2022 and received a subscription confirmation. The company continues to keep charging me monthly (for 3 years now!). I've sent multiple e-mails but no one is returning my messages. I'm planning to report them to the better business bureau. This is terrible.
I signed up with this company to take a medical scribe course with a 14 day cancellation policy in place. After 8 days I changed my mind and wrote an email to cancel. They never responded. Then I called them to cancel and they said they would return the money to my account. But the refund never took place. Then a week later they charged a textbook to my account that I hadn't ordered. This is fraud! Fortunately, I had used my credit card account for this purchase. So I had to contact the fraud department to get my credit card account deleted. Word of advice, if you deal with this company, USE YOUR CREDIT CARD ACCOUNT! That way the bank will be on your side and help you out. Otherwise, you will lose your deposit.
For some reason this website has many other "sister" websites i guess? I got a random charge today from scribd and i was really scared that something fraudulent was going on. Though a month prior, i had signed up for the 30 day free trial on everand and cancelled it immediately after. I am VERY careful of doing this and i always cancel my free trial subscriptions if i'm finished with their service. BUT! What they don't tell you, is that you also get a free trial for their whack $#*! sister companies! Great! I was none the wiser until today when i was charged 14.94 through my paypal from this company i didn't recognize. I issued a refund immediately and the claim was found in my favor the same day. I'm going to be deleting my account entirely from this website after i receive my refund because i don't trust them with my information, and neither should you. If you are experiencing the same issue, go and make sure that you have cancelled all subscriptions from the connected websites before they charge you. Do not be afraid to threaten chargebacks through your bank if all else fails.
They took me money for nothing!
Be careful this app is connected with a few others, and will take your money, if you subscribe "free trial" on more then one. They won't even inform you about it, I saw it when I checked my account ballance xxx
Subscription is not even worth it, they have nothing in offert, some random pages in pdf, not even sure if they are exacly from books you are looking for
Never give them your credit card details!
First of all, the advertised FREE one month trial is a lie. You are told you will have ad-free previews of books, and be able to download for a month. So you give them your personal and financial information. Then they tell you actually, you only get 3 free downloads, oops. But that is also a lie, it doesnt let you download more than 2 documents before your pay the whole subscription fee. After you sign up for a free trial to supposedly get an ad-free preview of the books, adverts are still appearing every couple of pages, and you must wait for ages to be allowed to skip an ad. This makes the site impossible to use. So, no ad-free views, no downloads. This is Scam number 1.
After that, you decide, okay maybe I will pay and try the service. You pay the subscription fee. While you search for PDF books, in turns out that most things shown on Scribd are audiobooks from Everand (I did not go to Everand, it is probably as problematic as Scribd and does not include the titles it advertises). So, as you search for hours, you realise that they actually have hardly anything useful. Most documents and "books" are summaries, portions, couple of pages, someone's random comments on the book, or they have horrible unreadable quality. You try to find something usable among hundreds of useless random documents. No real readable good quality books on Scribd then. This is Scam number 2.
After battling with all this and finally accepting the sunk cost, I decided to cancel. After having been unsuccessful at cancelling my subscription on their website, I had to contact my payment provider and cancel it through them. Okay, but they took the next month's payment anyway. This was annoying, I thought, maybe it is my mistake, I should have cancelled WAY before the deadline to give it time to be processed. So I thought alright, I will try to use it for another month then, since my request to have the payment refunded was rejected. And this is where they go full crazy. If you dare to cancel through your bank, and not accept your fate, they actually, seriously, literally ban your e-mail address from accessing the saved titles, your account information and everything else, leaving you unable to do anything at all. You cannot log back in. Seriously. They ban you from the website. So, you are stuck having paid for yet another month, and unable to access the website. And this is scam number 3.
Oh and don't forget, you cannot contact them! There is no contact option. You cannot complain, you cannot get support. Faceless company.
If you still aren't convinced, do go read the "Dark side of Scribd" for other unethical and ridiculous things they do. Just stay away. It is not worth the stress.
I paid $11.99 to download a pdf manual of an older version of Adobe Photoshop. After paying, the download wasn't functional. I sent a message to their customer service describing the issue in detail and demanding they not process the payment or issue a refund. Never heard back from them and the charge showed on my ccard via PayPal. First and last experience with Scribd, hasta la vista baby!
Joined Scribd/Everand a month ago. Their "free trial" is not free. They charged my account twice within that 30-day free trial period...once after two weeks of the trial and then at the end of it. I canceled my subscription and notified my bank of the fraud. Not only am I disputing the charges but a
Have had the bank remove the card from my account so they can't continue to steal from me.
I had hoped this subscription would be good...it seemed so at first. Then, I found out that not only are they fraudulent in their charges but there's a limit on how many books you can read in a billing cycle.
Initially, when you search online for a good ebook subscription, Everand seems like a good choice until you actually have to deal with them. The complaints about them outweigh the good reviews and all seem to have a common thread - deceptive business practices.
I want to know why you charged me 73 euros. Is your subscrition only 10 dolars? I want an answer why you took so much money even though i canceld my subscription on google play. I request a refund.

Eleven months after my "free trial" subscription, which this scammers hit my card. They don't have phone support, so you must go through their email to inform them of erroneous charges. They wrote back and requested a ridiculous amount of info in ordder for you to get a refund. Each subsequent email I received from them was from a different person, yet the reply address was always the same - "*******@scribd.com". I contacted my bank with the proof of cancellation and filed a dispute with VISA, who found in my favor and refunded me. However be advised that if you file a dispute like this, VISA must issue you a new card. I did one better on this and I filed a complaint with the FTC, as I think that not only are they low-life scammers for this practice - which apparently is a common occurence, but they are also guilty of copyright infringment for selling access to copyrighted material.
Hello Dennie, we appreciate your feedback! Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We apologize for the inconvenience and for any frustration this may have caused. Our support team has responded to your ticket #5172534. In short, we believe we locate the account. Please continue to respond via the ticket going forward. Thanks again and have a great rest of your day!
After cancelling my subscription, I found they have continued to charge me. I tried to get in contact with customer support but they have not replied despite claiming to be available 24/7.
Do not pay this scam website! They are fraudulent!
Hello Andrea, we're sorry for any delay in following up with you! Since we cannot bill you for a canceled subscription, it sounds like the cancelation was unsuccessful or there may be a duplicate account linked to the charges that you received. Either way, we can definitely look into this to ensure there are no further charges and provide any available refunds. If you've created a support ticket with us, and it's still open, please update your review here and provide the 7-digit ticket #. Otherwise, you can create a new support ticket using this link, http://bit.ly/social-support-help, and we'll have a member of our support team get back to you as quickly as possible. Thank you, and have a great day!
Impossible to reach them - this is just about the only company of its type that has no phone support at all. Everand should rename itself Ever-eady as they just keep charging!
Hi Gordon, we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause as we do not offer phone support at this time. However, we are more than happy to help you via email if you need assistance - just create a support ticket using this link, http://bit.ly/social-support-help, and update your review here with the ticket # that you receive. Once we receive that information, we can have someone get back to you right away. Thanks!
My free trial was from 09/13/23 to 110/13/23.
I canceled 10/11/23.
Attached is proof of these dates.
On 10/17/23, after receiving multiple attempts from Scribd to charge my card 11.99, my bank froze my card. They thought it was suspicious. Possibly fraudulent. Luckily my account was nearly empty, so they couldn't take money out.
Now I can either: somehow get Scribd to commit to NOT charging me, unfreeze my card against ALL advice from my bank and the rest of these reviews (which tell me Scribd will continue to charge my card long after my "free" trial is over), or mark the charges as fraud, cancel my card, and get another. Leaning toward to latter, as I'll likely never trust my card again after seeing that others get charged YEARS after cancelling.
This is ridiculous. I didn't even have a paid subscription. I had a free trial that I canceled early, yet they still charged me? It seems more like a business practice than a mistake, considering how many people have similar complaints, how long they've been coming in, how difficult it is to cancel at all, and how hard it seems to be to get in contact with anyone. People aren't even getting their renewal reminders.
PSA: A company that makes it hard to leave is a company that's hard to trust. Every design choice is intentional. I'm a software engineer. The website's layout, with a veritable labyrinth before you hit the REAL cancellation page, was specifically built to keep people from leaving. I'm not buying the "duplicate account" schtick as the cause of the fraudulent charges either.
At this point, Scribd is either maliciously stealing people's money or shamefully negligent with their users' account and billing information. I'm not sure which is worse.
I've spent the last couple days wondering why I couldn't use my card to get basic necessities like groceries. And to hear that it's Scribd?
Watch your back and your wallets everyone.
Hi there, thank you for bringing this to our attention, though we're truly sorry for any concern this situation might have caused! Reviewing your support ticket #5115961, along with the account linked to that email address, we did confirm that your subscription was canceled and expired on October 11,2023, with no charges linked to that account. We'd be happy to further investigate this to ensure there's not another account linked to those attempted charges, or to merge your accounts if we do find a duplicate responsible for the charge attempt, so if you still need assistance then please don't hesitate to create a new support ticket using this link: http://bit.ly/social-support-help. We'll have a specialist get back to you as soon as possible. Thank you again, and we hope you have a great week ahead!
I must change my bank card to cancel payment, they can't find me with my e-mail to cancel it, but every month take money from card. Useless aplication, no star
Hi Mladen, thank you for bringing this to our attention! We're so sorry for the inconvenience and we'd be happy to help cancel your subscription to prevent additional charges. If you could create a new support ticket using this link, http://bit.ly/social-support-help, and provide the 7-digit ticket number that you receive then we'll have someone get back to you right away. I unsubscribed from this service a month after joining to use a single textbook for a university essay I was writing in DECEMBER 2022... NOPE, never mind. Flash forward to SEPTEMBER 2023 and I see a sneaky lil $14.55 on my Scotia app... Check back months and months and I'm being charged again and again for a service I DID NOT USE and UNSUBSCRIBED from. Absolute dog$#!t. How can this company continue to operate with reviews that repeat over and over that people were SCAMMED? Life is hard enough, trying to pay rent, groceries, wifi, phone, etc... already drowning without scam artists taking MY hard earned money. This is such garbage. I hope those who work for this disgusting company get what they deserve. I know I won't get a refund, though I and the others who have complained should. Learn how to run an honest company you DECEITFUL SCUM. Respectfully, I hope it is slow and painful when the time comes :)
Hi Megan, we're truly sorry for any concern this has caused you! It does sound like the charges you've received are linked to an unsuccessful cancelation or potentially a duplicate account in our system - either way, we'd be happy to investigate this to ensure there are no further charges. If you haven't done so already, please create a support ticket using this link: http://bit.ly/social-support-help. After receiving your 7-digit ticket number, please update your review here with that information and we'll have a specialist get back to you as soon as possible. Thank you!
This site seems to offer a 30 day free trial but even if you *think* you've cancelled within the trial period, apparently you haven't and they will continue to charge you. I was charged for two months before I noticed and have only been successful in getting one month refunded so far. I hope now my account is closed and that PayPal will come through with a refund for the other month. I've wasted a lot of time trying to communicate with them, they are slow to respond and the chatbot function will just send you in circles.
Hello, and thank you for bringing this to our attention! We are very sorry for any inconvenience this might have caused as it does sound like the charges were linked to an unsuccessful cancelation. Since you have already contacted us and may have an open support ticket, could you please update your review here and provide the 7-digit ticket # that you received? Once we receive that information, we'll gladly have someone follow up with you right away. Thank you again!
I have canceled my subscription and I received an email to that effect. I am still charged from May till now. You can't get to customer service or support service. While chatting with customer support, they will refer you to contact support( There is no phone number to contact support). There is no phone number. Scribd is fraudulent. Don't get caught up in this scam.
Hello Omolara, I apologize for any inconvenience, however at this time we do not offer phone support. We are more than happy to help you via email. If you received confirmation your subscription was canceled it was either renewed or there is a duplicate account causing these charges. I will need to look into your account to be sure it is canceled. Please submit a ticket through this link and your request will be escalated straight to my inbox: bit.ly/social-support-help. Once we confirm it is not causing the charges I will help locate the account responsible.
Thanks! -LC
Cancelled my subscription and deleted my account and they are STILL taking money out of my account. Impossible to talk to an actual person. They do not even have any way for you to talk to an actual person. So far they owe me $80. $25 for two stop payments through my bank and 4 monthly subscriptions. I don't want to change my bank account but I will!
Hello Katrina, I am happy to help. Since you canceled your subscription there must be a duplicate account causing these charges.I will need some information in order to track down the account responsible. Please submit a ticket through this link and your request will be escalated straight to my inbox: bit.ly/social-support-help
Thanks! -LC
I was charged for a free trial and was told I would be refunded. I knew I was eligible for a refund because their policy stated so. I contact support and was told "I've reviewed your account, and I see that you've filed a chargeback for the transaction you want refunded" when I didn't do a charge back. I disputed with another Useless App called PayPal which ruled "The case was closed in the seller's favor as the transaction was canceled after the authorization date" but Scribd policy is if you haven't used the subscription and it's been under 30 days you'll be refunded.
No refund, scam app
