The club I work for now uses Paychex. Its terrible! I can check my hours but I can not print out my pay stub. When I view my hours online that is all it shows. It doesn't show how much taxes, SS, or media care that is deducted from my pay checks. You would think that would be illegal. We are also using them for our online HR, but I can't access that as well. So I cant report anything to HR about my problems. Terrible Payroll. I want to find another job that at least gives me the common courtesy of telling me how much taxes and $#*! is being taking out of my $#*!ing checks.

Signed up for sm business services 2017 under pretense they would transfer and manage retirement fund as part of payroll service. After sign up, I was told they could not do this, but instead wanted me to sign up for their retirement program instead. I also have been passed on to several different assigned payroll acct managers, the majority of whom are inconsistent in their availability, frequently make mistakes on payroll reporting and offer slow to no response time on matters of payroll report inaccuracies! I also have been overcharged for service this year without formal notice, and currently am waiting for response in resolve this matter.

I have been a small business owner/physician medical practice and used Paychex as my payroll company. Paychex has many hidden charges and extremely poor customer service including multiple employee paycheck errors and health benefit errors and charges. I would never recommend Paychex to any colleague or business owner. BEWARE!

I made the mistake of choosing Paychex for a self-directed 401K plan as a small business owner. The sales person sold me the wrong type of plan, and the customer service has been horrible for over three years. They lost documents consistently, were unresponsive to requests, and their fees were too high for the service rendered. There are other options for owners who want a self-employed 401K plan with other vendors that do not charge such high fees, including $1,500 to transfer the plan assets.

Errors
November 28, 2022

There were errors in our payroll several times. Learned not to give them anything the least complicated, such as year-end truing-up to maximize allowable contributions to a 401(k). This was only one type of error which had employees upset, scared, & was time consuming. Decided to not use their 401(k) service. After all they are a payroll company first. Do your research before choosing any payroll company for retirement services. Web article by Ary, Rosenbaum Law Firm (no affiliation) was helpful.

I will agree with the other reviewer who commented that there are many hidden charges for paychex. ADP is cheaper. I do like how if you pay an extremely high amount for paychex you do get an account manager. I think it depends on how much you want to pay for the service and the size of your company. They do a good job of hand holding you through the entire process and they do have decent customer service but you pay for the extra service. 401K fees are not cheap and you should make sure you know what those are before committing.

Rating one star, since giving ZERO stars is not an option! Paychex is fine for checking your pay and hours, but DO NOT attempt to change password unless your (employer) administrator or HR person is sitting right there with you. After several days of such attempts (HR person was on vacation, not her fault), "customer service" person said I could be helped ONLY if I was a company rep; otherwise the only options were to be sent to a bot or a chat. Previous chats were not helpful at all because the same "password change" errors kept occurring. Customer service is nonexistent and the site is user-hostile. DO NOT USE

Not for small business
February 25, 2024

This company will put you out of business, they take an unrestricted amount of money out of your account. Once profile is created and bank account is linked, you can no longer CANCEL or DELETE your bank account and they will take random amounts of money out of your account. There is no button to simply end services, you have to jump through weeks and weeks worth of fees, looping phone calls, and emails just to curse someone out over the phone over their garbage service. NEVER EVER GET THEIR RETIREMENT PLAN ($1500 just to get your 401k 10 weeks later), NEVER EVER SIGN ANY DOCUMENTS with them. They are a scam. You'll have to close your BANK ACCOUNT and get another just to be left alone, they are a scam company.
