I love loading up the flight sim and setting everything up to be as realistic as possible so I can feel like my experience was as close to a real pilot's as possible. The hardest part of getting the place ready to go is having the creativity to find a stimulating location to take off from and another to fly to.
Prepping and inspecting the 737 for T/O? No prob. Finding a place on this big planet to fly to that will be interesting and novel? Not quite as easy as you might think.
FunPlacesToFly.com is the web resource that I've been searching for my whole life. Of enormous value to both real life and virtual pilots like me, this data-driven website has nothing to do with the potentially legally messy matter of teaching the user anything about the skill of flying or airplanes, but instead proposes to us cool, interesting, and usually scenic routes to fly.
While I do highly recommend FunPlacesToFly.com I would be remiss in not mentioning some weaknesses. The pages of the site are a bit cluttered, and the airport lookup functionality merely uses APIs to draw information in from a couple sources to repackage that info in a manner that is pretty worthless. Also, I think you could increase revenue by decluttering the site and putting all the monetization content in a small single area of all the pages on the site and labeling it in such a way that will make folks want to contribute.
I have to give this site four stars because I give out five stars exceedingly rarely. Again I highly recommend this website that easily lives up to its name. When I want a cool place to go I'll be looking to FunPlacesToFly.com or anxiously waiting their next mailer.
