I can remember joining this website as a young college student back in 2009. Then it was very good. I'd ask many questions and get plenty of good answers and some bad ones too. Now I'm lucky if I get 1 answer and whenever I do it's normally not very informative. Fortunately I have started using internet forums more over the years to get help. Yahoo Answers has become so ancient.
I love how they don't filter or censor the content posted by users. This makes the responses very rich in a wide variety of opinions and takes on the subject of asked questions. I think it definitely beats Ask (just my opinion)
Many users are very rude and juvenile, and the quality of answers-- and questions too for that matter -- is poor. There are more trolls than there are helpful people in the politics and religion sections. The rudest and most insulting answers often get the most thumbs up.
The site could be cleaned up if Yahoo did not rely on user reporting to police the site. One higher level user can actually report and have a question deleted. And, as I imply, many users are unfair. If they don't like a question or answer they will delete it.
What happens is that racist, obscene, insulting, ridiculously childish, personal attacks, and even threatening questions and answers often remain, while perfectly innocent questions and answers are deleted.
This can be proved by a google search: keyword site: answers.yahoo.com.
What Yahoo needs to do is police the site themselves.
I was an active member on the Ramadan section of Yahoo answers and I thought it would be a good place to learn about the Islamic religion. Boy was I wrong. Unfortunately, that place is filled with potential Islamic terrorists and many white supremacists who literally said they would kill all Muslims if they had a gun. That place needs some serious monitoring, and the monitoring should be escalated to people who have more authority than simple online mods.
The religion section is just a war zone... a lot of them don't like Christians (in my opinion, that is).
In the "family" section, some of the answers can not only be toxic, but biased towards the younger age group. For example, I saw this teenager talk about how his/her parents wouldn't support his/her dreams of making it into the film industry. A lot of them convinced the teenager to give up and listen to his/her parents, while the other answers that convinced the teenager to wait to pursue the dream by him/herself was ultimately thumbed down (or not even given a thumbs up).
Don't get me started about the gender section. It's full of man/woman haters who are obviously bitter. Sometimes good questions would be asked and then there would be woman/man bashing answers.
I only gave this website two stars because I'm hella generous and it can be helpful when you get answers from the right people.
I downloaded Google Chrome in hopes of using Google Chrome. But for some reason, all and I mean ALL of my searches have been searched on Yahoo Answers. It's gotten to the point where I need to either type in "Google.com" just to search Google or open a bookmark leading to Google. Would NOT use.
I asked if somebody knew about the name of a coach wallet found very similar question about other items. I received a letter from the Geastapo, sorry yahoo answer with a quiz the questions were ambiguos, and some even absurd and the answer were even worst. Is not a violation to brive offering points, yet anything can imply you want to chat or something else. Who make those guidelines people that scaped the victorian era or Mc Carthism?
This is an encyclopedia of information. I have been using this website since 2 years and I've achieved the highest level (Level 7). Really a good effort by Yahoo for increasing our knowledge and providing intelligent people to share their knowledge with others.
I have had 3 of my questions that I asked removed because they apparently "violated the Community Guidelines". I read over these guidelines very carefully afterwards and found absolutely nothing wrong with them. One of my questions that was removed was asking for opinions on what could be causing my stomach discomfort with a a description of my symptoms. I didn't use any "hateful words" or "exploiting the community". Obviously there are trigger words or phrases that have your question flagged immediately.
I used yahoo answers a lot a few years ago, back then you could actually get relevant answers. Now it's mostly full of people who are just guessing or who are only there to vent their own anger at other people. I get a lot of irrelevant answers or simply rude "answers". I don't even know how many times I've had replies such as "because you're stupid" or "why are you even asking questions on here". It's really just full of people who are out to be mean to others and make everyone feel bad. If you want real answers DO NOT use this website, you will only be disappointed and probably insulted a few times.
