Like many families looking for some stay at home fun during this pandemic, I decided to build a zipline in our back yard, much to my husband's chagrin. I purchased a kit from Amazon for Christmas after doing some reading and YouTube watching. I thought it would work fine. But as Spring approached, I took another look at our yard and decided I needed to put it in a different place and therefore needed a longer cable. And thus started a long string of watching more videos and making more purchases. My day job is an orthopaedic surgeon and I treat a LOT of broken bones so I wanted to make sure our zipline was as safe as possible. I decided I wanted a thicker cable and then a much more robust turnbuckle than what came in the kit. I needed new cable clamps and tree protectors and a larger sling for the tree. I needed new carabiners and straps and harnesses. I did my calculations for height and slope and built a launching platform. And finally, we put up the cable. I knew we would need a come-along and I had borrowed one from a friend. Unfortunately, the cable on it is 1/4" and my line is 5/16", so I didn't think my cable clamps would work properly. So I ordered the zipline tensioning kit from Ziplinegear.com. I was shocked and amazed that they allow you to use the kit and return for a full refund! That is amazing. I decided I also wanted a longer bungee than came with my kit, so I purchased a 30' bungee from them as well. The purchase was shipped quickly and the tensioning kit was a lifesaver. It is easy to use and is designed for the job. You really can't tension your line without it. After our first tensioning, we realized that the whole line needed to be brought down by several feet. The tensioning kit made it quick and painless. And if you can use it just for the cost of shipping, that is freaking amazing. But the best part of the experience was the instruction manual and safety booklet that they sent. It was absolutely chalk-full of everything you know to put up your zipline. Everything you need to know for planning and safety and what you need and how it works. My kit from China had 3 pages of poorly written instructions. The Zipline Gear booklet was everything I learned watching countless videos and I made some adjustments to my plans because of it. Mind you, I only purchased a bungee cord and a tensioner. They didn't ‘owe' me the booklet at all. I wish I would have bought EVERYTHING from ziplinegear.com. Their costs are comparable to Amazon but they really do give you unrivaled customer service! I will be returning the tensioning kit so someone else can use it. I so appreciate their policy on this. What started out as a couple hundred dollar idea quickly turned into a $1000+ project. But we finished it today and it is a blast.
Thank you ziplinegear.com. You rock!
