I have been a Verio customer for over 20 years. Service started good, although it became increasingly difficult to actually talk to someone if a problem came up, Today, my quarterly price went from $41.99 to $126.39. Over 3 times the cost. I eventually got through on chat, and it was explained that this was a routine price increase. What, three times the cost is a standard increase? I asked 4 times to be transferred to a supervisor, to no avail. Their idea of satisfying the customer was to refund about $30.00, which was still over twice what I had been paying. They acted like they were doing me a favor. After I hung up, I immediately found a new host and am in the process of changing hosting companies.

Great hosting experience and their customer service has really improved over the years. They get back to you within an hour when the site goes down and most of their staff are knowledgeable. I have had bad experience with some of their techs, but just keep calling back until you get one that knows what they are doing.

Apollohosting has poor miva merchant interaction - I have had a site hosted by apollo that uses miva merchant and I pay extra for them to be able to support it. When they moved servers something happened and I haven't been able to fix my ability to use miva merchant since then. Apollo is unable to help us and now I think I have to switch to yahoo shopping or something like that. I am planning to just ditch apollo hosting and go elsewhere. So, if you plan on doing ecommerce with them, look elsewhere for customer support. The good news is they don't have much downtime and they servers do seem to keep running all the time.

Downhill
November 14, 2023

Started off great but it seems they've sold their soul to a foreign company and service is F- on hold forever. Don't understand or care about my issues…just lining their coffers!

I had a very basic but important to my business web site and email hosted with Verio for quite a while. Apparently they recently sold the company to another outfit that wanted to force everyone onto a new platform. The problem is that there was very little effort made to smooth that transition. I carefully followed their instructions and, despite my setup being about as simple as it gets, there were major problems and downtime with the first attempt. The support people were not well trained (didn't understand how DNS updates propagate, for instance), and unwilling to get higher levels involved. They announced that users would have until Jan 16 to complete the migration. Then, on Jan 4, without warning or notice, they simply shut off my old server and my site went dark. I had to scramble to get things limping, and there was little help about the differences in setting and usage (eg., not so much as a hint about where to go to login to my "control panel" until I sat through an hour wait to talk to support.)

This was a very poorly managed transition, done with little or no thought to how it would impact their customers. They are losing my business because I can no longer trust them to care for my business assets.

Update: after double charging me, they wanted me to jump through hoops to prove it rather than just checking their own accounts and refunding me. This is the very definition of horrible customer service. I strongly recommend against doing business with Verio.

Here's a quote from Wikipedia: "In late May 2015, Verio, as a business unit of NTT America, Inc., was sold to The Endurance International Group, Inc., a low-confidence provider of web solutions who generally tanks new acquisitions,..."
