They give outstanding education to students and faculty and staffs are exceptionally helpful and spend extra-time. When it gets into administration, nothing can be done right. Off-site management just spent a fortune for dysfunctional IT and everybody gets upset.
I have been in medicine where evidence determines how likely the knowledge is true. At this university, it is determined by what associate deans and chairs say. Senior dean says employee turnover is low but department loses nearly all of them not once. Does not it mean high turnover? Academic/pre-clinical leadership just stay for nothing. They created the new curriculum but is a disaster. They help chairs to dictate and create nepotism. It is not fine when husband-wife commonsense brought into curriculum and department.
Medical school is good but not superb with excellent faculty, but warms and caring cultures are disappearing after outstanding deans were leaving. Tuition is fine compared to nearby more expensive universities. The medical school has been maintaining the highest standards and quality but not anymore. What I do not like about academic leadership is they are very personal. They must go through a national search to get the best candidate but they are trying to promote them without a national search. They require faculty and staff to go through a national search, so there is no accountability. The academic dean is at the master's degree level, with no clinical training or no PhD training at medical school. They are placing friends to executives. Those are the leaders who say you do not need to know, do not follow university policies, and forces employees to follow in very personal ways. The diversity office announced it to be important but kicked out the best ever officer. They do not represent anybody and now ignore minor opinions and try to force the majority to be the most important. It is moving downward. Those are my opinions.
I would not recommend my worst enemy to come to this school. Touro CA loses rotation paperwork regularly so be prepared to lose your rotation sites. The Anatomy lab manager (Dr. Bruce Silverman) stares at the female student's chests when they speak to him or are nearby, so be ready to objectified when you are paying to actually be in a professional learning environment. The Anatomy professor (Dr. David J. Elliott) continually says unprofessional statements as well as stories and inappropriately touches students in front of the class. The Immunology professor (Dr. Evan Hermel) commonly says racist and sexist comments to students as well as colleagues, who will then attempt to justify this by his son's adoption story. The Neuroscience professor (Dr. Barbara Puder) only favors white males in her course, if you are a minority and a woman, then good luck. Dr. Barbara Puder also has mood swings which will impact the grading scheme and your overall course grade. They do not comply with California law regulations, therefore if you are owed funds from financial aid they will alter the dates in the system, so that they keep the funds. Lastly, Touro CA does not value honesty nor speaking up for yourself, they want conformity, not individuality. If you are wiling to give up your morals, ethics and who are, to get to where you want to be professionally, then this is the place for you.
