Buyers OK But Seller Beware
September 19, 2022

Buyers can find some good finds and prices on collectibles … much better than EBay … but try to become a seller … is frustrating to say the least. 9 out of 10 Auction houses are almost impossible to deal with … they hardly ever respond to enquires … each one charges differently from 15% commission up to 50% yes I said 50% … most put a starting bid at $1.00
Some only want items of a minimum value of $25.00. I would say most of them want to pick & choose what to sell and I would even go as far to say many just want to go through peoples stuff to find the things that you don't know are valuable so they can buy it themselves and then sell it on their own

I can not believe it
Why? Ontario Hibid, has no control
In the companies that sell there.
This Wabigoon Auctions company scammed me out of $1,697.84.
By the name of John Mille
But the name of the email transfer is KENNETH S MCMILLAN
If anyone wants to notify the police
Count on me, so they don't do the same
With other people

I have been buying on the HiBid platform for a couple of years, had no problems until I had to go toe to toe with Encore to get a $1300 refund. In the end, I had all I needed to prove I was entitled to it, but they drew out the process and bounced me around from department to department for weeks.

I suspect that a petty staffer gave me a bad review, maybe eight of them, because in recent weeks I have pending and declined bids for no apparent reason. I spoke with HiBid to get to the bottom of it, but they said they have no access to who put in the reviews, just that they are all 'non payment'.

I went through every bid I have made, all my emails and hard copy receipts and cannot find anything that suggests non payment.

I believe HiBid should revisit their policies. If an auction house is going to give you a poor review, you should be notified by who and why, and get a chance to respond.

The HiBid staffer I spoke with said that some reviews are made in error but still, there is no way to fix them.

So buyer beware, if you piss off an auction house - even for the right reasons as in my case (I did get my refunds eventually) they can make these reviews, make up lies and no other auction house will accept your bids.

You're basically guilty until proven innocent, yet there is no way of even proving your innocence because of the gate keeping!

It's absolutely ridiculous that you don't get an opportunity to either rectify something with the auction house, or prove it was made in error or out of pettiness.

I've heard the auctioneers can also make reviews as anonymous - so keep that in mind.

I do love the platform and concept, and I have my favourite auction houses, but now even the ones I buy from regularly are pending my bids.

Keep a paper trail!
