I bought quite a few plants from New Garden Plants as the selection of the species of plant I was looking for was quite impressive. The first plants I bought from them came well packaged and were healthy. They hadn't flowered yet at the time. They're flowering now and unfortunately, they sent me plants I didn't order or want. I ordered specific colors and shapes of Echinacea which comes in a great many variations. I guess they will send you whatever they have on hand instead of what you actually order which is fraud. The very last plant I ordered from them actually had a tag on it describing the plant. It was something totally different then the plant I ordered. I contacted them about it. I sent them photos. I requested a refund or the plant I actually ordered. "Pete" apologized and said they would get right on it ASAP. That was awhile back, so far nothing has been done. That's when I started to think New Garden Plants is basically engaged in deception in their online plant sales. A few weeks later two of the plants I bought from them flowered. Once again I was staring at plants I didn't want or order. They sent me the wrong plants that were labeled as the actual ones I ordered. Either they are engaged in fraudulent practices, or they need to seriously improve the quality of their employees who pick, pack and ship their online orders. I really thought this business was great at first, I'm disappointed that it seems more like a scam now. I do specimen plant gardening, so I know the exact size, shape, petal color, petal shape variations, growth habits and soil, light and water requirements of every plant I order online or buy from local nurseries.
Searched for email correspondence; couldn't find any, although was quite sure they had confirmed my $152.00 order through email. Tried their website, which the owner had denied me, and those within this web area. That explains why I couldn't find the emails. I'd never even heard of that! Checked my bank records and found the order on March 7,2025. Entered a dispute through their system and hoping for a refund, at least 2 weeks out. Meanwhile, the bank's policy requires that they cancel my credit/debit card and and issue a new one. That means running out to pick up the new one, as well as contacting multiple vendors.
I ordered 4 plants and when they arrived they looked like they had a to war. They were crushed and dying. I am not a novice and these 'icecicle' plants are usually a hardy plant. With crushed leaves and their poor condition, I could not bring them to life. Ido not recommend buying from this business.
I ordered 2 quart size Coral Bells, in April 2024. When I received the order, one pot just had dirt. The other pot had the smallest coral bells I have ever seen. I took a photo and sent it to the store. When I poured the dirt from the pot.it was a tiny 2-3 inch pot coral bell that was planted UPSIDE-DOWN in a quart pot. Same with the other pot. One could tell it had been placed in the larger quart size pot! So, they were charging for 'quart size pot' plants AND 'quart size shipping charges'. I sent photos and comments to the nursery...no reply. They are scamming and defrauding people.
This company put thimble size root ball in a 4 x 4 and sold it to me. There was no root structure to the plants.
Either crappy company or serious quality issues

I bought 9 sedum plants and when they arrived 6 of them were waterlogged, rotting and falling apart. The other 3 were bone dry which actually is better for sedum. I have hope for those but the other 6 will probably die. I emailed Pete at New garden plants and he didnt reply. They obviously dont care and thats why Im writing this revie. If they at least replied and tried to make this better Id give them a chance.
I bought two plants and hoped they could ship the next day and they did! They were received in excellent condition and packaged very securely. I am sorry other are dissatisfied with this company. I was very impressed and greatly appreciate the effort made. I will buy from them again.
Purchased 12 Sonic Bloom pink weigela 10 doing good 2 died within 2 weeks, this company does not even respond to phone or email. Would just like to have the 2 replaced
I ordered 7 plants. Six were not at all matching the online description and the other was a dinky little baby plant. I contacted the seller many times. No refund, no replacements. He claims the plants will magically turn into the plants I thought I was ordering, as for the baby plant, he won't replace it nor refund me.
Please use caution with this business as you won't get compensated for their mistakes. They don't care.
Nine plants I had to throw away; the rest were so piddly and weak I am digging them out and replacing with something else- NOT FROM THEM!
When I asked for a refund vis a vis their 100% satisfaction guarantee, Pete (the owner) stonewalled me.
NOT A RELIABLE OR HONEST SOURCE FOR PLANTS.
I ordered plants from New Garden plants in May of this year. They have sent the tracking number when they shipped it. When FedEx site showed "delivered", it had a picture of someone else's door and I have not received anything. I called FedEx and they said that the package with this tracking number was supposed to be delivered to a different address. I contacted New Garden plants and they said that they will re-ship the flowers. They have not re-shipped anything and stopped answering my emails (there is no way to contact them over the phone). I wish I read reviews before ordering. So many other people had similar experience!.
New Garden Plants had better pricing than other websites but you get what you paid for when it's too good to be true. I ordered three Cat's Pajamas Nepeta and two David Tall Phlox and I was NOT pleased when I saw the plants. The Cat's Pajamas did not look like they were the specific cultivar I ordered; the plants were too tall to be CPs and looked like another type of cultivar plopped into Proven Winner containers with the PW labels. The David Tall Phlox were merely stems. I don't want to hear "just give it time and tlc" when I'm expecting some more vigor and health from a plant right in its growing/flowering season. Overall, all the plants looked like they were divided or propagated from a backyard nursery to keep up with online demand but couldn't keep up with quality. This has been the worst online nursery shopping experience and I would rather pay more from a reputable website.
Very disappointed in the 3 supertunia plants I ordered. They were in limp condition, did not respond to being watered, and still don't have buds on them. I have planted them in hopes they will eventually bloom. The price was quite a bit higher than what I have paid for Proven Winners elsewhere, and the containers were smaller than what I usually get. Will not be ordering from this place again and have written a note to "Paul."
I would like to revise my previous review, which questioned whether this was a legitimate business.
I have since received the (3) blue waterfall bellflower plants ordered on May 25.
An email notice of shipping with Fedex tracking was received on June 5, and plants arrived on June 7.
They were packed extremely well, individually protected and all were healthy, watered, and correct.
Although the lack of response to emails was certainly frustrating, I likely reacted to other negative reviews and assumed the worst. This was, in fact, a holiday weekend. New Garden Plants is legit. And I would probably order again. However, the lack of prompt customer service communication is certainly a negative.
On May 9,2023 I ordered plants from Pete at New Garden Plants. On May 25,2023, I have received nothing. I have written emails to Pete alerting him that I have never received the plants, which I was told were mailed on May 17. I have received NO RESPONSE from New Garden Plants. I have now requested a refund to my credit card. Still no Response.
The worst online nursery experience I've had in awhile.
I've had a ton of experience ordering plants online and I am an experienced gardener. Half of the plants that I got in this order were dead on arrival, the others were in just fair condition. None were great. Even though I should've asked for a full refund, I asked for a half refund since I figured I might be able to nurse the others back to health. They finally responded a week later saying "they'll come back in the spring "
I responded saying I paid for healthy plants and that I still wanted a half refund. I never heard back again.
I've bought from a ton of other vendors this summer filling in my landscape here and I've never had such an issue. There's no excuse for this kind of customer service. I'm going to challenge the charge on my credit card. Stay away from this vendor
Ordered 3 plants, only received 2. On the receipt hand written "sorry n/a we will refund", but never did refund. They should have let you know ahead of time and refund on the day they shipped the plants. Sent them 3 emails, no reply. Called them, the phone greetings tell you to email Pete. With the 2 plants received, one was yellow and not in good shape. Will not recommend.
I ordered two of the same plants and one was in great shape and the order one was two stems with a bunch of dead leaves in the pot. Sent an email with pictures the same day, have heard nothing six days later.
I ordered 100 dollars worth (6 plants) of black snakeroot - brunette bugbane - and received 6 spikenard instead. Completely different plants, colors, uses etc. Pete does not answer emails and I was very pleasant with the first 3 emails sent. I basically gave him 100 dollars for nothing as he does not acknowledge the order mistake and will not even return the email. I will report to a business bureau in Grand Rapids if I can - this is a scam website.
Answer: In my experience, I have found the plants to be as good, if not better than other nurseries I have ordered from. The pricing was better too. I would look no farther than New Garden Plants.
Answer: I ordered 3 plants, one completely dead upon arrival. No response as well. I guess their "Guarantee" is false advertisement.
Answer: The first time for ordering and problems were very responsive. Following up with order issues... they just ignore you.
