The NASM is not about sports *medicine*: it is mostly a certification body for personal trainers. There are many of them and no licensing body in the USA. There is a lot of controversy concerning the need or usefulness of such certification bodies. There is well elaborated criticism of this state of affairs. The NASM doesn't offer a "bad" service. The question is if the service should be offered at all.
I joined thinking this was what I wanted to do but throughout the course you'll notice their main concern is how to sell to the clients ONLY. Chapters and chapters of focus on that. I sent in a request on the 30th or one day after which is in the requirements for a refund and the person on the phone explained it wasn't a problem. However, this is when they scam you out of your money. They put you on a waiting list and you still receive calls from them trying to get your money despite canceling because it's only "a request." It's a total scam to get you to sign the paperwork and not respect the thirty day cancellation that THEY provide "at your convenience."
Back in October, 2020 I called NASM to let them know that I would be unable to make that month's payment because of a financial hardship. In November, 2020 I called again to ask if I could continue to put my account on hold as a result of a reduction in work hours and pay due to COVID. The woman I spoke with said that they would be able to do this through January. Today, I called to let them know that my situation had not changed, and have now been furloughed indefinitely with no pay, and need a refund of the January 26,2021 charge. Currently, I have no source of income and do not qualify for unemployment benefits. I explained my situation kindly to the gentleman I spoke with on the phone today. They told me there is nothing they could do. I asked to speak to someone who could, and they said that person is not available for days. This is unacceptable - especially during the current pandemic. As a Customer Success Manager professionally, me and my team have gone above and beyond to extend customer subscriptions at no cost and provide refunds without difficulty. Therefore, a business who truly cares about their customers should do the same. As a result, I CANNOT recommend NASM to anyone looking for CPT or Nutrition training.
