I made a reservation two days ago for an accommodation in Milos at the end of July. I had my reservation confirmed by hostelbay.com and they kept my credit card data and 10% down payment. After communicating with the hotel, I was informed that there was no such reservation, nor a vacancy for the entire July and August. So I have paid, but no room!
Hostel bay does not reflect correct hostel prices for ANY of the 6 hotels I booked with them. I had to contact every hotel I was going to and still had issues upon arrival to one of them. They were not willing to help me at all and their customer service was horrible- they refused to honor their price and cover the difference like any other website would do.
I was at the hostel before they did the renovations (I think?) and it was adequate place (for Greece).
I would like to see how it looks now and compare with how it was 7 months ago. I was there at a very low tourist time, so there were not many other guests at the hostel. Staff were nice, but like most places - they smoke indoors so it doesnt smell fresh (hopefully the new owners will heed the LAWS that forbid smoking in public places, especially indoors.)
The hostel is fairly central, and in a safe place, but can be difficult to find at night the first time.
Because it was out of season, I had room to myself which was great. The kitchen facilities were minimal, but I knew renovations were about to start.
I look forward to seeing the new and improved International hostel :)
Never again will I be using Hostelbay.com I had to cancel one guest out of 2 on the reservation, I gave more than 1 month notice, and could not be issued a refund.

We would like to inform you though that if you are referring to 10% downpayment that is non-refundable and we are not hiding it as it is in other sites also, unless you pay the cancellation protection from where it is deducted from future bookings. If you are referring to the rest 90% that is a responsibility of the hotel and not hostelbay according to each hotelier cancelation policy. BTW my booking based on the average ranking by the reviews was tottaly wrong. Hostel was not what ment to be...

I booked The Island Hopping Pass in Athens last year.
Then I went Santorini Island by using the pass, then I tried to use again to come back to Athens. However the website was not working, so I couldn't use the pass.
Thanks to This horrible pass, I spend twice as much money for one way. Also I wasted my various time in the Santorini Island.

We have stayed in hundreds of hostels, and this by far was the worst. I would not recommend at all. Everything from day one was a disaster. Despite having contacted the hostel and organised our bookings weeks before (with everything confirmed in writing) when we arrived they said we had no booking because they were extremely disorganised, then they told us we had booked 6 beds (even though there were three of us and we had not) and told us we had to pay for them all. This was very frustrating, but they managed to work it out by squeezing a fold up bed for one of us to sleep on in a double room. We stayed here for three days and there was no hot water at all the whole time to shower (we were not told about this and when we asked what was happening they told us to try and go to another hostel and shower!), no printer available to print our tickets (we were told to go find a hotel nearby to do this), our room was not cleaned the whole time we stayed here (despite telling them multiple times) and the sink in our bathroom was broken and overflowing (and noone would fix this). The most disappointing part of this hostel was the service, the workers did not take responsibility for any of the issues, despite us being paying customers, and could not be bothered to fix anything. The price is outrageous for what it is.
Teen hostel + nose: beach and party. You can't count on the drivers to let you at the good harbour: hé refused, certainly because this hostel is an industry.
I found the best hostel in my holiday in Santorini with the help of that site! Had an amazing week! Thank you hostelbay!
