Is Grist.org a scam or a legit company?

It is a legitimate company and online magasine that's existed since the late 90s. They specialise in journalism concerning the environment. You can check their wikipedia page here:

They also have a high factual rating on MBFC.com, though the site does cite that there's a slight left-leaning bias in its reporting:

The site itself has an about page and a form one can fill out in order to contact the business. You might want to try it yourself in order to alleviate your concerns. ;)
