The other night (at midnight) we were awoken to loud scratching and thumping coming from our roof. Upon inspection, a focussed raccoon was trying to gain entry into our attic from the trough section of our side split roofline. It managed to peel back the aluminum facing, and was chewing the wood behind it, it had opened up a lopsided triangular area (approx. 4" x 10" x 8"). Fortunately, it had just started, and we were able to get it to leave our roof. The following morning I called 5 credible companies listed on Google, as I knew that raccoons were keen and focussed animals. Only two companies returned my calls. The first told me that I was too far for them to service, and the second was Solace Pest Solutions. I spoke to Belle from Solace Pest Solutions. Belle took the time to listen to my story, provide preventive action details, and a timeline as to when she would be over to assess. Belle arrived later that day, at the agreed upon time. She did a physical inspection (both interior and exterior), and gave me a detailed explanation as to the options. Upon the interior inspection of our attic, there wasn't any obvious evidence of animal disturbance in the proximal area. Belle was later joined by Travis, and the two installed a temporary one way exit door (in the remote case the raccoon had returned unnoticed, or that a stray squirrel had gotten in during the morning), as the opening was in the distal area of the roof and hard to fully visualize from inside. Both worked efficiently, and kept me updated. They did all the preventative measures needed to keep the critters outside and disinterested in our house. They made sure that no critter was in the attic (temporary one way door), reinforced the downspouts and areas immediately around them, reinforced areas that would be weak and attractive to raccoons to break into, screwed in "V" shaped aluminum shields into both front and back areas of the side split roof troughs, and applied air vent cages over my 6 plastic air vents. After a few days Belle returned to remove the temporary one way door (at the lopsided triangular opening), and repaired the area (by replacing the chewed wood and applying a thicker piece of aluminum over it). If you look at our house from the roadside, the work that Belle and Travis did is seamless and tidy. The lack of worry regarding raccoon and squirrel break-in is immense.
