Somehow my fiancé got redirected to this site when searching to get his birth cert online.
He started the application on this site and I tried to tell him it wasn't the right one and apparently he had input his ss# and all his info (including his email) already. He then closed the link out and went to use VitalChek since that was what the state has on their site and I told him that was the website he needed to use. He paid for his needed papers and got a confirmation for the charge.
So because this company had his info, and he closed the page out, they soon after spam emailed him asking for him to give more info and pay a fee to complete his transaction. He was confused and assumed it was the VitalChek site and went ahead and completed his payment this scam website.
This is common practice for scammers to do and it's sad he overlooked the info but he was under stress from having just spent hours looking for his birth certificate in the house and finally opting to buy a copy from the state online. The total fee spent on VitalChek was $88 for expidited processing and for the real application to be completed online.
This company then were asking for additional info which he assumed was needed from the county and state website he was on. They scammed him out of $49. Sadly it's real easy for someone to overlook and be confused by when they are frustrated and in a panic to get needed papers for something like travel or identification purposes. So while I feel for everyone who's been scammed by these people, please always make sure to visit your state and county. Gov website for the actual link to where to obtain info on getting paperwork needed. Do NOT just google "how to get my birth certificate online" cause these scammers are in waiting for unsuspecting citizens to rip off.
THIS company then charged him $49 and has all his info now. The charge, which he now had to go through the process of putting a stop on is a small price to pay to realize this lesson but all his info is out there now and has to have a new card issued to him. What a hassle and honestly he now has an identity theft concern to deal with.
No clue as to how many charges that company would have tried to apply tonhis debit card but that won't happen anymore cause it was cancelled.
