DON'T USE IXL
February 3, 2025

If you are considering getting IXL as a parent, teacher, school, or student, DO NOT! For a young child's brain, even an app like TikTok would be better for them because it wouldn't make them rage and break their laptops. Moreover, my child says people at their school want to cause harm to themselves because of how you gain 2 points per question and lose 10. IXL is also really unforgiving, and I tried it myself. They barely even explain how to do this stuff, and it's such an unforgiving site! The videos are so bad; their explanations are horrible or way too long, and people spend hours completing a single skill for homework on IXL. Furthermore, it feels like IXL doesn't even care about a child's mental health, since they give the most random skills and keep making you finish a useless skill. For example, if you're working on a transformation in math, they will ask you to do 1 lesson each about translations, reflections, rotations, and dilations (which is 4), and then another one for each for finding the coordinates which is USELESS. THAT'S 8 LESSONS FOR ONE DUMB TOPIC. Later, they also recap stuff which adds an extra 4 lessons! They are so

If you are a parent who is homeschooling and is thinking of buying IXL, I strongly recommend you PLEASE not buy this program and support this company. Your child will begin developing mental problems (almost guaranteed), and when they can't complete the assignment, they will get frustrated (trust me, I've seen this). As an alternative, I would find different websites, such as Khan Academy, since it's free to use, or even just look online for free PDFs and videos on how to do the same skill. IXL is one of the worst programs to use by far, and I am in the process of trying to get my child to not use IXL for schoolwork or homework. So, if you are reading this, DO NOT PURCHASE IXL!

Things you can compare IXL to:
1) Plastic from Temu
2) Rotten meat
3) Living in a volcano
