1. Fraudulently billed for 5 months of unwanted services despite specifically shutting off auto-renewal:
I ordered pricing service for a single month on December 8th 2010, at $24.00 for 30 days. I received an email the same day stating that I had been set up for auto-renewal of this service, despite not wanting this, and not being notified of it prior to purchase. I immediately logged into the site and turned off this unwanted "feature". I used the service for several days, to get the desired pricing, and I then paid off the credit card that they had billed, in full, and hadn't used the card for quite some time, before receiving a bill for 5 months of this service on my card on May, 8th 2011.
I immediately reset my forgotten password (I hadn't used the beckett.com site in 5-6 months), and again turned off auto-renewal, and emailed customer service through their website to request a refund and an explanation for this fraudulent billing practice. After 3 days without response, I emailed *******@beckett.com from my personal email. I have not received a response, and today is May 16th, 8 days later.
2. Poor, Philippines based customer service that dumps you into hold purgatory rather than deal with an issue:
Thinking I might get a faster response by calling, I called their "contact us" number listed on the website, which, it turns out, has been outsourced to the Philippines. In addition to being remarkably difficult to understand, there is no one at this number who can answer a billing or account question, and there are never any "available" supervisors. I have called six times, totaling over 2 hours of phone use, with no results.
3. No Billing/Customer service option in the phone menu:
If I had called the number listed on the site to set up service, I would have known immediately that this is an extremely shady company. There are literally no "Customer Service", "Billing" or "Complaint" options in the phone menu. Only by filing a consumer complaint with the Better Business Bureau was I able to discover the specific persons name who handles complaints, and surprise, surprise, repeated calls to Traci Kaplan in complaints have gone unanswered.
I have filed a charge-back with the credit card issuer, and a complaint with the BBB (of whom Beckett.com is not a member, and with whom there are over 47 recent complaints filed against Beckett.com).
The agency responsible for regulating Beckett.com is the TREC available at www.trec.state.tx.us This is because Beckett.com, as an auction site and appraiser of goods, is regulated by the state of Texas. I am filing a complaint with them today as well.
Additionally, as an interstate commerce site, Beckett.com falls under the jurisdiction of the FTC. Their complaint site is listed here: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/
If needed, charges will be filed with both the MA and TX attorney general's offices, and a claim for restitution, wasted time and legal fees will be made in small claims court.
In summary, Beckett.com is to be avoided at all costs, as they use fraudulent billing practices, employ off shore, poor customer service, do not have the option to speak to someone in billing or customer service, and do not return phone calls or emails.
Beckett.com, if you're reading this, check the original email I sent. You should have just responded in a timely fashion, and all of this could have been avoided.
